From Highway To Hell To Ezy Rider Thanks To Unique Tracking Technology

Tracker and Warwickshire police get an Italian holidaymaker back on tour after his motorbike was stolen from outside a West Midlands hotel

An Italian motorcyclist touring the U.K. was back on the open road after stolen vehicle recovery expert Tracker Network (U.K.) Limited was alerted by its sister company, LoJack Italia, to the theft of his motorcycle from outside a West Midlands hotel.  In the European cross-border operation, Warwickshire police were called into action and with the help of Tracker’s Mesh Network, the BMW R1250 worth £15,000 was tracked to one of two containers at a self-storage site near Coventry airport.  The containers also revealed two further stolen bikes as well as other motorcycles which had already been stolen and stripped for their parts.

Comments Clive Wain, Head of Police Liaison at Tracker, “Having a vehicle stolen is always stressful, but if it’s stolen when the owner is travelling abroad with it, it can be even more devastating. We are delighted to have quickly located the motorcycle, enabling our Italian visitor to continue with his U.K. tour.  And not only did we find other stolen motorcycles, but our recovery also led to arrests being made.”

While physical security measures, such as chaining motorbikes to the pavement or keeping the vehicle in a garage are good theft deterrents, it’s not always possible for the rider to do so, especially when away from home. Not only does Tracker offer a greater chance of a vehicle being recovered if it is stolen, even when abroad, but it also offers a range of security alerts and instant theft reporting capabilities. For example, if a vehicle is moved without the ignition turned on, an alert is generated, notifying owners of a possible theft. If a battery is disconnected, this could indicate attempted theft and an alert will be generated automatically.

Sandro Biagianti, Director of Security at LoJack Italia, said, “This retrieval demonstrates the success of working collaboratively as an SVR operation with genuine European capabilities. The unique relationship that Tracker has with U.K. police forces helped massively in us reuniting the stolen motorcycle with our customer. It proves that the technology and infrastructure is in place to ensure that Tracker and LoJack customers are protecting their assets, even when touring foreign shores.”

Tracker’s unique technology can enable the police to pinpoint a stolen vehicle if it is hidden in a container or lock-up.  This makes it particularly valuable for detecting stolen vehicles hidden in containers at major U.K. seaports and airports. Add to this the unique Tracker Mesh Network and the chances of recovering a stolen vehicle are greatly increased. When a vehicle fitted with a Tracker unit passes any Tracker equipped vehicle that has been reported stolen, the unique Mesh Network automatically sends a signal to Tracker’s Head Quarters and the police, providing the location of the stolen asset.
