TRACKER Helps Caravan Dealership Recover Caravan Worth £18,500

Case Study

February 20, 2015

Preston Caravans and Motorhomes, in Clifton, near Preston, had a narrow escape, when one of its caravans was stolen last week. Fortunately, stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) expert, Tracker (part of the Tantalum Corporation) proved instrumental in the recovery, as the caravan was fitted with a Tracker unit. The unit was promptly activated and provided vital support to the police in tracing and recovering the missing caravan within 5 hours.

Preston Caravans and Motorhomes is an established dealership, offering a wide range of new and used models, from leading names, such as Bailey, Elddis, Sprite and Swift. But this didn’t stop thieves targetting the retailer and driving away with a caravan worth £18,500. The thief evaded the CCTV cameras, by using false number plates. Fortunately, the caravan was fitted with a Tracker device, which was activated and lead Lancashire and Greater Manchester police to a location 36 miles away.

Glen Campbell Director of Preston Caravans and Motorhomes, comments, “It was a huge relief when the caravan was found and back at the dealership within five hours. If it wasn’t for the Tracker unit, that caravan could have been lost for good. This incident has underlined the value of Tracker’s SVR technology and we’d recommend it to all of our customers, as a security solution that increases the chance of police recovering a stolen caravan.”

Andy Barrs Police Liaison Officer for Tracker adds, “Tracker is the only SVR product that is used by the UK’s police forces and once again, this has proved valuable to helping police locate and return a stolen vehicle. This case highlights the value of Tracker for dealerships, such as Preston Caravan and Motorhomes. Having a Tracker unit fitted to valuable stock could be the difference between a vehicle being found and returned or taken by organised criminals and never seen again. Tracker’s award winning technology stops thieves in their tracks, protecting dealers and their customers, if their vehicle is stolen.”

Unlike other devices, Tracker’s unique technology can locate stolen vehicles anywhere, even when they are hidden in a garage or shipping container. Tracker stolen vehicle recovery systems work like an electronic homing device. A covert transmitter is hidden in one of several dozen places around the vehicle. There is no visible aerial, so the thief won’t even know it’s there.
