TRACKER Presents Award To Detective Constable Mark Anson

Date: 20 July 2017

TRACKER (part of the Tantalum Corporation) recently recognised Detective Constable Mark Anson of the Lancashire Constabulary with an award at the IAATI UK Conference, held in Loughborough. DC Anson’s crucial role in the investigation of car key burglaries in the Blackpool area resulted in arrests and prison sentences for the offenders. This marked him out for the TRACKER Award for Excellence in Stolen Vehicle Tracking and Telematics Investigation, an accolade that highlights the close working relationship between TRACKER and police forces across the UK.
DC Anson was part of a team investigating car key burglaries in the Blackpool and Fylde area when he identified that a Range Rover stolen from Lytham St Annes was fitted with one of TRACKER’s stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) units. The unit was activated and resulted in West Yorkshire Police recovering the vehicle in a steel container on a Halifax industrial estate
Subsequently, DC Anson utilised knowledge and expertise gained from his time as a former stolen vehicle squad detective to embark on a complex criminal investigation. Using telematics data supplied by TRACKER, a number of offenders in the Blackpool and Fylde area were identified. This resulted in the ring leader, David Bailey, receiving four years’ imprisonment at Preston Crown Court for a series of burglaries across the Lancashire Constabulary area.
Detective Constable Mark Anson, says, “This is an incredible honour for me and everyone who worked on that lengthy investigation. Thanks to our partnership with TRACKER and the data it provided, we managed to close the net on the criminals, putting the ring-leader behind bars, which is a fantastic result. Winning this award is just the icing on the cake.”
Andy Barrs, Head of Police Liaison at TRACKER, comments, “DC Mark Anson is more than a worthy winner for this award. He harnessed our telematics data, overlaying it with the ANPR and mobile phone data, combined with some good old-fashioned detective work. This was a complex investigation, but Mark’s hard work and expertise in using SVR and telematics resulted in some terrific arrests.
“This award offers us an important opportunity to celebrate the commitment of UK police forces in the fight against vehicle theft.”
Unlike other devices, TRACKER’s unique technology can locate stolen vehicles anywhere, even when they are hidden in a garage or shipping container. TRACKER has been reuniting car lovers with their vehicles for nearly 25 years, and it’s this expertise which makes TRACKER the leader in stolen vehicle recovery. TRACKER stolen vehicle recovery systems work like an electronic homing device. A covert transmitter is hidden in one of several dozen places around the vehicle. There is no visible aerial, so the thief won’t even know it’s there.
