TRACKER helps police recover Range Rover worth £50,000 in Birmingham, West Midlands
Date: 10 November 2014
Sam Miller thought her Range Rover was safely on the driveway, until TRACKER called to inform her that the car was on the move. A quick look at her CCTV system showed a thief simply walk up to the vehicle, open the car and drive off with it. This theft is the latest in a rising trend, as thieves target vehicles with keyless security technology. Leading stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) expert, TRACKER, highlights the value of a tracking device, which helps police locate missing vehicles and close the net on criminals.
The Range Rover Autobiography cost £100,000 new, making it a huge temptation for thieves, who know how to get past the keyless security sytem. At the press of a button, criminals can get into a car and drive it away, as Sam discovered. Fortunately, once Sam confirmed it had been stolen the TRACKER device was activated and the police were informed, within 20 minutes the car was found via TRACKER’s Mesh Network.
TRACKER’s Mesh Network creates an added defence against vehicle theft by using other vehicles already fitted with a unit to identify stolen vehicles, therefore creating its very own social network. When a vehicle fitted with a TRACKER unit passes any TRACKER SVR equipped vehicle that has been reported stolen, it automatically sends a signal to TRACKER providing the location of the stolen asset.
Sam Miller says, “The call from TRACKER came out of the blue and I couldn’t believe it, when I looked out of the window and my car was gone. My CCTV footage showed that the theft was over in less than 30 seconds. Without that TRACKER device, my car could have been gone for good, so I can’t recommend it enough.”
Andy Barrs, police liaison officer for TRACKER says, “This was a fantastic result for Sam, as well as the police, and just goes to show the value of having a tracking device. As criminals learn new ways to get around hi-tech security systems, motorists need to do everything they can to protect their vehicles from theft. Whilst a tracking device won’t stop your car from being stolen, it will increase the chances of it being located and recovered.
“TRACKER is the only SVR solution to be used by all of the UK’s police forces which is why installing one of its units can significantly increase the chance of police locating and returning a stolen vehicle. This combined with our Mesh Network, makes TRACKER the most robust tracking device available today.”
TRACKER’s stolen vehicle recovery systems work like an electronic homing device. A covert transmitter is hidden in one of several dozen places around the vehicle. There is no visible aerial, so the thief won’t even know it’s there. Unlike other devices, TRACKER’s unique technology can locate stolen vehicles anywhere, even when they are hidden in a garage, container or underground car park.
