TRACKER helps police combat organised crime in smaller towns
Date: 25 August 2015
A customer in Exeter got a nasty surprise one morning when he woke up to find that his motorcycle had been stolen from his garden. Luckily, TRACKER (part of the Tantalum Corporation) were not only able to recover the bike within 12 hours, but also worked with police to unveil a whole stash of bikes that had been stolen in the local area. TRACKER is warning bikers that organised motorcycle theft doesn’t just operate in big cities, and is reminding them to be extra vigilent over the summer.
Liam Harbach, aged 26, received a movement alert from TRACKER in the middle of the night. Once the theft was confirmed, the TRACKER team worked urgently with local police and discovered the motorcycle located in garages in a residential area in west Exeter.
The police were able to pick up TRACKER’s VHF signal, despite the bike being hidden away in the garage. When police opened the garage they discovered a further three high powered non-TRACKER fitted motorcycles that had also been stolen, worth thousands of pounds collectively.
“This was not an opportunist theft of just one bike. This case had the classic signs of a prolific thief who concentrated on stealing high powered motorcycles in the Exeter area,” explains Adrian Davenport, Police Liaison Manager for TRACKER. “Fortunately, Liam had a TRACKER fitted, which was key to the police recovering his bike as well as the other non-TRACKER fitted stolen motorcycles. The majority of the units registered with us are owned by people living in cities; people living in small towns or villages may think that they do not have to invest in much security. We recommend bike and scooter owners use a range of secutiry options, including chains and immobilisers.
“This recovery is a great result, not only for Liam and the other bike owners, but for the police who have made at least one arrest in relation to the incident. It sends a clear message to criminals, that we are closing in on thieves and helping reunite owners with their stolen vehicles.”
TRACKER Retrieve is a Battery Powered device that uses patented VHF technology that can track stolen motorcycles and scooters, even if they are hidden in containers, lock-ups or underground car parks. The high tech tracking technology is not stopped by GPS/GSM signal jammers.
Liam Harbach comments, “I thought my bike was gone for good, and it could well have been as it was hidden away in a garage with a load of other stolen bikes. This is definitely one service that I am going to recommend to all of my friends, whether they have a bike or a car. It is worth every penny for the peace of mind and protection it offers.”
