Protect your car not just your caravan this summer
Date: 18 March 2013
Nobody wants their dream caravan holiday to end in the motorway service station or to come back from a day out to find that the caravan is there, but the car is long gone. TRACKER, the stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) expert, reminds caravan owners to think about the security of their tow vehicle, as well as protecting their home away from home from thieves. Whilst less than half of reported stolen cars are ever recovered, over 90% of stolen cars fitted with a TRACKER device are found and returned to their owners.
“Each year around 1400 caravans are stolen in the UK* and caravanners are aware of the need to protect their holiday homes on wheels,” says Stephen Doran, Managing Director of TRACKER. “However, it is also vital for caravan owners to think about the security of their towing vehicle, otherwise they could have their holiday cut short by thieves."
“TRACKER has led the way in car tracking solutions for almost 20 years and we are still the only provider working in partnership with the entire UK police force, making a TRACKER unit the ideal security investment for vehicle owners. 80% of vehicles recovered by TRACKER are found within 24 hours, making a stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) unit the ultimate protection against thieves.”
TRACKER stolen vehicle recovery systems work like an electronic homing device. A covert transmitter is hidden in one of several dozen places around the vehicle. There is no visible aerial, so the thief won’t even know it’s there. Unlike other vehicle tracking solutions, the device works even if the vehicle is hidden in a garage or taken abroad, offering car owners the ultimate in peace of mind should the worst happen.
Stephen Doran, Managing Director of TRACKER comments, “Vehicle theft is highly stressful and disruptive for victims, especially, if you’re on a caravan holiday. But caravan owners can use TRACKER’s award-winning technology to protect their caravan and their tow vehicle to ensure they stay on the road and enjoy a happy holiday.”
TRACKER’s Summer Security Tips for Caravanners
Don’t give thieves a free ride during service station stops and petrol stations, think about security before going off for that cup of tea
Make sure the car is locked to the caravan, using a hitchlock
Immobilise the caravan, even for short stops
Keep valuables out of sight in the tow vehicle and the caravan
Invest in a TRACKER device for your vehicle, as well as your caravan to enhance the chance of recovery if either one is stolen
Always lock the vehicle and the caravan before walking away
