4x4 targeted by thieves in South Yorkshire
Date: 23 January 2013
A series of 4x4 thefts in South Yorkshire has led to stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) expert TRACKER, playing a key role in assisting South Yorkshire Police with the recovery of a stolen Range Rover Sport in Rotherham. The TRACKER unit was activated and within 24 hours the police had recovered the vehicle. TRACKER urges owners of Land Rovers, Range Rovers and other 4x4s to take steps to protect their vehicle, which is now top of the shopping lists for car criminals in South Yorkshire.
“The value of 4x4 vehicles lies in more than just their cost,” explains Stuart Chapman, Police Relationships Manager for TRACKER. “These vehicles are often stolen then stripped for parts and shipped aboard, as they are worth more to the criminals that way. In the past year TRACKER has recovered 29 Land Rovers worth over £800,000 in total, showing that these appealing cars for thieves are regularly recovered by TRACKER. This new case shows how effective a tracking device can be in helping police close the net on thieves, as the South Yorkshire area continues to be a hot spot for 4x4 thefts.”
As the only vehicle tracking system operated by all 52 police forces in the UK, TRACKER significantly increases the chances of a stolen vehicle being recovered and returned to its owner. Over 90% of vehicles fitted with a TRACKER device are successfully located and over £464 million worth of stolen vehicles have been recovered by TRACKER to date.
TRACKER SVR systems work like an electronic homing device. A covert transmitter is hidden in one of several dozen places around the vehicle. There is no visible aerial, so the thief won’t even know it’s there. Unlike other tracking systems, TRACKER devices work even if the vehicle is hidden in a garage or taken abroad, offering car owners the ultimate in peace of mind.
