Car sales in the UK are continuing to accelerate as 2014 drives on, with August seeing a 9.4 per cent year-on-year increase, according to official figures.
In the 30th consecutive month of sales growth, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed that 72,163 new vehicles were registered in August 2014 - 9.4 per cent more than August 2013, reports lse.co.uk.
Although August is considered one of the quietest months for new registrations, accounting for approximately three per cent of the annual market, its 2014 sales took the yearly total up to more than 1.53 million - an impressive 10.1 per cent increase on the first eight months of 2013.
Mike Hawes, SMMT's chief executive, said: "The UK's performance in the context of Europe is particularly impressive, with growth consistently ahead of the rest of the EU for the past two years."
