The SEAT Leon has been named as the Auto Express Car of the Year.
The annual Auto Express New Car Awards ceremony, which was held in London last night (2 July), saw SEAT win its first Car of the Year award in its history. It was the Spanish manufacturer's Leon model which was lauded, picking up not only the event's most prestigious award, but also the gong for best Compact Family Car.
Where British manufacturers were concerned, it was Land Rover which proved most successful, taking three awards, including one that was voted by the public.
Land Rover's all-new Range Rover won the public vote for Design of the Year and also took home the Luxury Car of the Year award. Meanwhile, its Evoque model continued its dominance of the industry by taking the Best Compact SUV award for the third year running.
At the more sporting end of the spectrum, Porsche dominated, taking both the Coupe and Roadster awards for its Cayman and Roadster respectively. The Performance Car award, meanwhile, went to Toyota for its GT 86, whilst VW's Beetle Cabriolet took home the Best Convertible award, mynewsdesk.com reports.
It wasn't just cars being honoured but vans as well. The Ford Transit Custom ended up taking home the award for Van of the Year, which makes the marque much more desirable and could prompt owners to think about fitting theirs with a vehicle tracking device.
Commenting after the ceremony wrapped up, Auto Express editor-in-chief Steve Fowler told autoexpress.co.uk: "We're continually amazed by the quality and efficiency of the latest new cars - offering so much more, but costing far less to run.
"Standards are incredibly high, which makes choosing the right car more difficult than ever. These Awards provide the perfect guide for car buyers in the run-up to the September plate change."
