A BTEC qualification in safe driving has been created for fleet drivers, midlandsbuisnessnews.co.uk reports.
Consultancy and risk management firm TR Fleet has announced it is to extend its qualification portfolio to include a brand new, bespoke BTEC Level 2 award in safe driving.
The qualification will involve both practical and theoretical aspects, aimed at showing motorists the risks they could avoid through safe driving, before putting this into practice.
With motorists representing their employees whilst out on the road - often in vans emblazoned with a company's livery - it is thought the scheme will be a popular one. Furthermore, obtaining the qualification may not only reduce the risk of accidents but also lower insurance premiums as well.
The qualification could also help with a number of knock-on benefits, such as fuel economy, with safer driving often burning less petrol than a more dangerous, aggressive approach. Combining this with fleet tracking could then ensure vehicles and their drivers are not only safer but more efficient too.
Commenting on the new qualification, TR Fleet commercial director Jo Ewen told fleetnews.co.uk: "A poor accident record is the biggest factor affecting insurance costs for fleets.
"The BTEC in Safe Driving has been welcomed by insurance companies due to the significant reduction in claims from drivers completing the course. This impact has resulted in reduced premiums with participating businesses reporting reductions of up to 25 per cent."
