Be vigilant with car safety, expert tells Surrey residents

A car expert has told motorists in Surrey that they should be vigilant of their vehicle's safety.

The warning comes after police in the area revealed that there have been 380 car thefts since March. Samuel Cise is managing director of Source Luxury Group Ltd, which is based in the area. He said the first thing that motorists should do to ensure their vehicle's safety is to get a car tracking device.
He told getsurrey.co.uk: "When my Land Rover was stolen I realised any tracker would have found it. Getting a tracker is the first thing you should do."

Mr Cise claims that most vehicles which are over £40,000 or £50,000, such as Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Bentleys, are required by insurance companies to come with these systems. However, police statistics show that the most popular car stolen in the past five months were Fords, with 68 stolen in the time period. This could mean that those with less expensive vehicles may also want to consider the devices.

It is not just in Surrey where car safety has been an issue recently. It was also revealed this week that a north-east London area is suffering with the amount of car crime, according to ilfordrecorder.co.uk.

Police figures showed that car crime in Wanstead is four times the national average. Data highlighted that there were 557 offences per 10,000 vehicles between October 2011 and September 2012, whereas the national average is 121.
