As the weather begins to get warmer and the days a little longer, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy some exciting automotive action around the UK. Whether you like to revel in the roaring of racing engines or you'd prefer to admire the classic styling of iconic vehicles of the past, 2014's motoring calendar has you covered. Here are just a few of the most exciting happenings still to come this year...
Goodwood Festival of Speed - June 26-29 - West Sussex
Goodwood is one of the country's most famous motorsport locations. The track and its grounds - which are located near the West Sussex town of Chichester - hosts its annual Festival of Speed (FoS) towards the end June.
Expect to see all things quick, with everything from historic Formula One cars to the latest super-machines from the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Pagani on show. Last year's festival marked the 50th anniversary of Porsche's iconic 911 with a special display and guests in 2014 will get to take an exclusive look at the new Koenigsegg One:1, which the Swedish manufacturer is billing as the world's most powerful production car.
The event has been capped at 150,000 attendees since 2005 and it rarely struggles to draw the crowds. Tickets are, however, available from the venue's official website.
The Silverstone Classic - July 25-27 - Northamptonshire
A little further north lies Silverstone, Goodwood's main competitor for the title of 'Britain's most prestigious racing venue'. At the end of July, the circuit - situated just north of Buckingham - will welcome classic vehicles from across the motoring ages, as well as thousands of spectators from all corners of the world.
The Classic offers a range of static displays and fast-paced motoring action for automotive enthusiasts to enjoy. It's not just limited to cars either; visitors will get to enjoy a range of live entertainment, with Canned Heat and Welsh songstress Bonnie Tyler set to perform this year.
Going back to the wheels, there are plenty of special occasions to celebrate at the upcoming event. The famous Ford Mustang and Aston Martin's DB7 both reach milestone birthdays this year - 50th and 20th respectively - with a number of owners' clubs putting on tribute shows. Maserati's centenary celebration is also expected to draw big crowds.
2014 MotoGP British Grand Prix - August 29-31 - Northamptonshire
Silverstone alone has a busy events list this year, and it continues in August with 2014's MotoGP British Grand Prix set to take place at the end of August. The pinnacle of the country's superbike calendar, the race has been held at the Northamptonshire circuit since 2009, when it picked up the baton from Donington in the East Midlands.
As it stands, 21-year-old Spaniard Marc Marquez is way ahead of his more experienced rivals in the Championship table and will no doubt be looking to widen the gap even further when the British leg comes around. Likewise, fellow countryman Dani Pedrosa and Italian legend Valentino Rossi will be hoping to close the gap behind the newcomer for an exciting end to the season.
Marquez's challenge isn't the only thing to see at Silverstone over the weekend. Spectators will also get the chance to enjoy the Moto2 and Moto3 events, where riders compete on slightly less powerful bikes. That's not to see these competitions are lacking any speed, though.
